General Maps and Services
- View DFO Maps through the Public GeoBrowser
- View DFO Maps will take you to the Public GeoBrowser which allows user to consult a variety of pre-defined maps representing DFO information. Information presented on the Public GeoBrowser comes from various DFO web map servers as well as map servers external to the Department, using the capabilities of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure.
Specific Maps and Services
- Bathymetric Gridded Data
- CHS offers 500-metre bathymetric gridded data for users interested in the topography of the seafloor. This data provides seafloor depth in metres at any location, in latitude and longitude.
- Locate Hydrographic Surveys
- Locate Hydrographic Surveys will take you to the Survey Locator, which allows users to locate specific hydrographic surveys or to identify surveys in an area of interest. Surveys have been organized by type and by age. Similar to the Chart Catalogue, the Survey Locator has advanced navigation and query capabilities that can be enabled with the ‘Multi-Select’ button.
- Digital Charts - Raster CD Collections (BSB)
- BSB is a raster chart format that stores compressed raster image data in a run-length encoded binary form along with ASCII text describing the projection, datum and other information necessary for navigation and other applications. A raster chart in the BSB format consists of multiple files with the extensions *.bsb, *.cap, and *.kap.
- Digital Charts - Vector CD Collections (S-57)
- The most significant digital product being delivered in the S-57 format is the Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC). S-57 was adopted as an official IHO standard by the XIVth International Hydrographic Conference, Monaco, 4-15 May 1992, and is also specified in the IMO Performance Standards for Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) (IMO Resolution A.817 (19) as amended).
